iPage have been in the industry now for over 10 years and are part of the EIG family of brands (including Hostgator, Bluehost and iPage). They tend to focus on the small local business and personal website part of the market with really cheap WordPress hosting starting at $1.99/mth!

For our iPage review site we signed up for the Essential Plan.

iPage Provisioning and Installation

Getting set up with iPage was as fast and easy as any of the standard hosting companies offering Cpanel and easy to use 1-click WordPress installation scripts like Softaculous.

iPage Systems and Support

Like all the EIG companies, iPage offers 24/7 phone and chat support which is really pretty extraordinary for hosting that starts at just $1.99/mth. We used the chat support  when we were setting up the iPage review site and found the level one support to be knowledgeable and helpful. Nothing to complain about here.

iPage Load Test

Considering iPage has the cheapest starting price of all the hosts in our review we remain very impressed by their technical performance and ability to handle a lot of users all at once. In our latest round of testing the average user load time in the Load Impact test started out at about 1.2 seconds which is already pretty good, but it quickly dropped to <700MS. We guess that iPage does some network caching of pages and resources, and once that kicked in the site didn’t slow down all the way up to 100 concurrent virtual users. iPage recorded the fastest average Load Impact load time of 0.585 seconds, but we do have to dock some points for the failed requests recorded in the testing…being fast is great, but that doesn’t help if requests on the server are failing. We should say the rate of failure was low, but we need to consider this compared to other hosts which recorded no failed requests at all during the same testing. As with the last round of testing, iPages great Load Impact performance is offset as well by relatively poor performance in our daily Pingdom testing (see below).

iPage Page Speed & Uptime

iPageResult
YSlow Score76
West Coast Load Time1.68s
East Coast Load Time0.965s
Average Page Load Time1.323s
iPage Uptime100%

iPage doesn’t get as good a YSlow grade as some others, but that didn’t stop them from recording reasonable home page load times over the period. Their average was 1.323 seconds this month which is actually a drop in speed since the last test (when they averaged 1.142s), and they did not perform as well as the best performing WordPress hosts.

Our iPage review site has had 100% in the last 30 days. Overall, we’d say that for the most budget conscious iPage is a great choice considering their very low entry level pricing.

About iPage

This company, iPage, hosts about a million sites, and offers a bevy of add-ons to a fairly simple, standard basic hosting package.

In addition to all the standard hosting options, such as dedicated, WordPress, VPS and essential hosting, they offer website management and “e-commerce” services, such as shopping carts, credit card processing and SSL certification. There are also plenty of scripting and add-ons, as well as some marketing services available for a fee.

The company offers unlimited disk space, no limit on the number of domains and MySQL databases and unlimited bandwidth. There’s a free drag-and-drop site building tool for up to six pages, a template-based site builder, a blog setup wizard and photo gallery setup wizard, as well as more advanced technical tools (“Features For Geeks”).

Most web hosting services intent on targeting the small business market offer Google AdWords credit. IPage does as well, and adds on Yahoo!/Bing sponsored search credit, as well as a free Yellowpages.com listing and a free toll-free phone number for United States customers. And iPage offers a full complement of email services, pretty much all for free and unlimited, such as forwarding, autoresponders, virus checking and customizable spam filters.

FAQ’s

What’s the basic setup they offer?

iPage offers shared hosting for real budget prices. The iPage Essential Plan is unlimited hosting space, data transfer, and an addon domain for a truly low price.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes, iPage customers get a 30-day full refund trial period upon signup. They also offer customers an Anytime Money Back Guarantee refund policy, where if you cancel your iPage account after the first 30 days, you will still get a pro-rated refund.

What payment methods do they accept?

IPage accepts credit cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express) and PayPal.

What site builder tools do they offer?

IPage offers iPage Website Builder free, and it’s pretty easy to create your site using their Drag and Drop Website Builder. With the builder you can choose the design template you want, and add widgets and other elements that you need for your site.

Is it really unlimited?

As much as any other “unlimited terms” providers: Page provide unlimited hosting service, as in they don’t limit how much you can use as long as it’s reasonable. As company officials say, “There are no set limits on the disk space or data transfer (bandwidth) that we provide in our hosting plans… 99.95% of all customers will have more than enough disk space and bandwidth to meet their needs. That being said, we do require all customers to be fully compliant with our Terms of Service and use disk space and bandwidth in the normal operation of a personal or small business website.”

If you’re using it for storage or file sharing, you’ll have problems with them.

Well, how can they tell, really?

They regularly run customer bandwidth and storage space utilization through a series of statistical analyses and use the results of these studies to define “normal.” Although the actual results of these analyses vary from month to month, one thing remains constant: 99.95% of their customers fall into “normal” range. Customers who fall outside the normal range are usually using their accounts for file storage or sharing, not hosting.

And if I’m not “normal?”

If they have concerns about your account’s bandwidth or storage space utilization, you will receive an email asking you to reduce usage. Generally, they provide customers with a minimum of 48 hours to make adjustments before taking the account offline.

What do they offer in the way of email?

Unlimited email at your domain name, and such standard features as email forwarding, autoresponders, customizable spam filters, virus checking, checking your mail online, the standard stuff. While iPage allows its shared hosting customers to create unlimited mailboxes (i.e., POP/IMAP accounts), each individual mailbox has a storage capacity of 500MB or 10,000 email messages, whichever comes first.

What’s the customer support?

They have an online help center and ticketing system, and offer 24/7 phone, chat and email, saying they answer calls in about a minute. Plus they have step-by-step tutorials, and what company officials say is “rigorous Q&A testing” of support staff.

  1. I chose iPage to host 3 of my websites because:
    1. Their packages are unbelievably economical. Some may see this as “too good to be true” but this IS true.
    2. Their uptime is almost 100%. I once came across a situation where my site was down (for like 1 hour) but it was soon gone and none of my visitors had noticed it.
    3. Their support is awesome. I manage a WordPress site on a normal hosting plan but they never fail to help me recover my site back, after I’ve done something stupid. The support tickets are usually answered within hours and the chat support always makes me happy.
Recommended for all types of websites!

It took me about 4hours wandering round the net searching for a better and reliable hosting service, before I finally encountered iPage.

when I landed @iPage, the first thing that got my attention was their price tag – it’s unbelievable! The cheapest you can ever get, saving over $50 annually.

I went through the services being offered by iPage, and with I saw, I was wondering if that is true, because it seems impossible to offer such a service with the amount (price tag) being put on it.

I give it a try and registered. But, YES!!! iPage kept their words, everything about them is true.

They’re extremely awesome, reliable and efficient, one of the best green hosting service I’ve seen.

They are because, every issues I’ve encountered and needed a work through, whenever I solicited for assistance from iPage, they always respond in time and help me out.

So, if you’re seeking for a better and reliable hosting service, iPage is the one to go for.
I would recommend it to you for any websites.

  3. Since I code as well as design, I have had some specific requests and iPage tech support has been very helpful. To me, a great web host just works and stays behind the scenes. I have been using them for several years for various sites and have no complaints. I would recommend iPage.

  4. Claudia says:

iPage is the kind of service I like: easy to use, great customer service, excellent value and so far, not time down.
I would prefer that the website builder I use, Weebly, has the same features than on Weebly’s page, because the navigation and features are becoming outdated. But I guess it’s a matter of reviewing the contract, isn’t it? I hope you do soon.
I recommend this service, also because they are a “responsible power company” by using solar panels. Good match for my values.

  5. Kosiso says:

after searching a long while online to find a hosting client that would suit my demands, I think Ipgae finally solves my woes… great features, unlimited space, bandwith, low cost and very effective hosting… Ipage support can also be very annoying with messages like “All operators are currently assisting others. Thanks for your patience. An operator will be with you shortly” but I can manage that and be patient anytime I need to get cleared on something

  6. Vanessa says:

Its been almost a month since i started using ipage’s WP Essential plan. I must say, being a novice with 0% knowledge on how to hosting and working with WordPress …the support has been very useful, especially the 24/7 chat support along side the ever patient customer service agents.

Its been a great journey so far, and i’m learning all through. I would surely recommend hosting on ipage for simplicity and excellent chat support.

  7. Rosie says:

Every time I break my site(s) they fix it. I try a ton of things out being a novice, I break things. It has never taken very long for their wonderful WordPress Essentail support to get me back up and experimenting again. Did I mention, they make me laugh at the same time? They are always full of suggestions to help me gain the knowledge I need to be running right, experimenting more and breaking my sites less. Compared to other hosting options I have tried, hands down I recommend iPage. Any things else is just not enough. Support is fast, friendly and they know what they are doing.

  8. Ely T says:

I have had several sites with iPage for several years and have never had one negative experience. When I first started my sites I had many questions and committed many mistakes that would show on my site. iPage representatives saved me each and every time, no matter how many times it happened. I have since learned a lot more about site building but do run into issues or have questions at least once a month. iPage continues to have the same great customer service they did years ago when I first joined. Great price and even greater service.

  9. Jahangeer says:

    Awesome service.
I have been using iPage for the past three years and I thoroughly enjoy their hassle free service and support. I have done domain transfers and built WordPress test sites to test them. And iPage handles it all like a pro.
I once had a major problem with intrusion and my site was taken down by iPage for malicious file infection. But the support team was quick enough to fix it and brought it back online within 48 hours.
They could improve on their connection speed as it can drop during peak hours.

I do recommend their service to friends, colleges and WordPress users all the time.

  10. Neneh says:

I’ve been using ipage for under a year, and I hope the experience will be the same after my first year when I need to renew my accounts and domain.I have about 10 hosting accounts with ipage and I have referred a lot of people too.

I choose ipage because it was affordable, their customer service is great, they can literally help you create a hosting account via their online live chat send you the information while you just pay with your card and there has been no issues, at least not yet.

  11. Over the years I have used many large and small hosts for my websites. What I have found is that price is not always the determining factor for good or bad. Some cheap hosts are really great and some very expensive ones leave you wanting more.

iPage caught my eye because they offered a great deal on a years hosting and they are a green host. They run their servers with wind power and frankly, who doesn’t love the idea of that?

They offer 24/7 chat support which I have used several times and find very helpful. The staff is knowledgable and friendly but there are a few things they don’t support so check them out before you commit if you need something special on your host.

I ran into an issue with a plugin that needed Imagemagick to run but iPage does not support it on their servers. In the end, I had to change my plans for the site I was working on but I blame myself for not checking on that before signing up with them.

The only other compliant I have is that some days the servers seem a bit slow to me but since I can not say for sure that it isn’t related to my local ISP and the connection speed here, I am reserving my blame on that one.

Overall, I would recommend iPage for your hosting needs. They give you a lot for a decent price. Check them out if you need solid, dependable hosting but don’t want to buy the servers with you monthly fees.
