Arvixe Provisioning and Installation
Signing up with Arvixe was fast and easy. They provide a very standard hosting service with the usual cPanel interface and the Softaculous script installer which makes it drop-dead easy to install WordPress.
Arvixe Systems and Support
Support might be Arvixe’s Achilles heel. The forums are full of complaints in recent months and even Arvixe themselves acknowledged the challenges on their support blog, although that has now been taken down. It seems in the wake of the EIG buyout the transition was a bit wonky with performance and support suffering.

Arvixe Load Testing Results
Arvixe’ performance in the latest round of testing was very strong. The load times for each virtual user session started out well and remained very consistent as the number of concurrent users increased.
This suggests that they are employing some smart network caching technology to quickly serve regularly requested resources, and the testing recorded no failed requests on the server. It is great to see this kind of performance on an entry level shared plan.
The pattern in Arvixe results is pretty similar to Hostgator which makes us think they may be hosted on the same infrastructure (also owned by EIG).

Arvixe scored 85 on the YSlow scale which is amongst the best scores and a 2 point increase since our last round of testing.
They also showed a fairly low spread in average home page load times between the East and West coast with an overall average of under one second (0.863s) which is really strong.
Uptime isn’t an issue for Arvixe either at 100% over the previous period according to Pingdom. Seemingly all EIG acquisitions go through a very rough patch post-acquisition as they are assimilated into the EIG infrastructure, but Arvixe seems to have come out the other side with good performance numbers.

Upon a recommendation of a colleague, I moved to Arvixe over four years ago. Online since 1995, I had never had a website down over 24 hours. Sadly this changed with Arvixe, not once but mulitple times sites or servers went down–one period was over a week before it was resolved. A big customer service fail.
When I first moved over, it was because my old host was not keeping up with technology changes. Arvixe had a good price point and customer service was awesome.
Sadly, this is no longer the case, once it started to decline it got to the point that I couldn’t stand it any more and so I moved to another host that is not owned by EIG and whose fast response time and customer service practices are more to my liking.
While at Arvixe, my servers were changed again and again (something like 5 times–the last one I requested).
Recently I found my sites still on at least one old server, definitely not to my liking.
During my hosting with Arvixe there seemed to be a glut of hacking events. Seriously difficult to clean up. My college who is a reseller found his private server was hit multiple times as well.
In many cases a hosting company can keep a customer for the long term if the customer service and quick actions to fix issues are common practice, this is no longer the case at Arvixe.
I noticed that after Endurance International Group acquired Arvixe, things continued to plummet to new lows. I had originally planned to delay my jump to another host–but glad I moved away as more issues and other changes so far have left me unimpressed.
