ClickFunnels vs Leadpages

clickfunnels vs leadpages

Landing pages are designed to fulfill the sole objective of converting prospects into customers. And if you’re running an online business then you’re going to need a landing page for it sooner or later.

Quick links:

The good news is that there are a number of landing page builders out there that make it easy for everyone to design and create high-converting landing pages for their business.

In this post, we’ll compare and contrast two of the most popular contenders in this space – ClickFunnels vs Leadpages. By the time you’re done reading this piece, you’ll have a better idea about which landing page tool is right for you.

What to Look for in a Landing Page Tool

Both ClickFunnels and Leadpages are excellent landing page tools which is exactly why it can be difficult to settle on one. We’ve defined a criterion based on which we will systematically evaluate both options:

  • Ease of Use. How easy is it for a first-time user to get started with the landing page tool? Does it have a neat, intuitive interface? Is the learning curve steep?
  • Features
    • Drag and Drop. Does the landing page tool allow you to create pages by dragging and dropping elements into place? Or do you need to be a developer to build pages?
    • Page Elements. What kind of page elements does the landing page tool feature? How big is the page elements library?
    • Does the landing page tool come with pre-built templates? If so, how many?
    • Deployment Time. How long does the landing page take to deploy i.e. go from a blank canvas to a fully-functional design?
    • A/B Split Testing. Does the landing page tool offer integrated A/B testing functionality enabling you to test out and optimize your page designs for your target market? If not, does it let you integrate with a third-party A/B testing tool?
  • Mobile-friendly. Are the landing pages mobile-responsive right out of the box?
  • What’s the price tag on the landing page tool?

Now that we’ve established an evaluation criterion, let’s compare and contrast our landing page tool candidates.

ClickFunnels vs Leadpages

In this section, we’ll take a closer look at ClickFunnels and Leadpages by briefly introducing each tool, detailing what it’s capable of, and evaluating it against our pre-defined criteria.

ClickFunnels Review

Clickfunnels review

ClickFunnels is an all-in-one marketing suite that lets you manage everything from generating and capturing leads to creating functional sales funnels.

Within those sales funnels, you can create landing pages, process sales, view analytics, and setup email auto-responders.

The service was developed back in 2012 by Russell Brunson and his team of developers. Since then, it has become one of the most popular names in the realm of landing page and sales funnel software tools.

Unlike similar landing page tools which allow you to create standalone landing pages for your products and services, ClickFunnels enables users to build entire sales funnels – a series of pages that prospects go through to reach a conversion goal.

While ClickFunnels lets you create all kinds of different marketing funnels – sales, opt-in, webinar, membership, auto-webinar, webinar replay, and product launch – we’ll focus on its landing page building capabilities in this post.

EASE OF USE

The ClickFunnels dashboard features a neat and clean user interface and is incredibly easy to navigate through.

Once you log in for the first time, you’ll be able to begin creating your first sales funnel by simply clicking the Create New Funnel button.

The dashboard also lets you search through your charted and favorite funnels and gives you useful information on real-time contact activity once your sales funnels start converting.

In addition to this, ClickFunnels also features a game-based tutorial that teaches you how to build your first funnel.

The game is a 7-day challenge that starts off with a welcome video featuring the ClickFunnels founder, Russell Brunson.

It essentially teaches you how easy it is for you to build a funnel for your specific business. And the best part is that you can get cool prizes like badges, stickers, and t-shirts for playing the tutorial game!

FEATURES

ClickFunnels, being a complete marketing funnels solution, packs a plethora of useful features under its hood.

Let’s see if it has everything you should look for in a landing page tool:

Drag and Drop

ClickFunnels’ latest editor features drag and drop functionality making it easier for landing page designers to choose where to place sections, rows, columns, and elements.

The previous version of the editor didn’t feature a drag and drop interface and, instead, had a point-and-click interface which often led to endless clicks during the page’s design process.

clickfunnels drag n drop UI

You can add new page elements to your landing page by simply dragging and dropping them into place.

In addition to this, you can also move around existing, on-page elements by dragging and dropping them.

While rows, columns, and elements can be moved around with the drag and drop functionality, you’ll still have to use the old point-and-click system to move different sections around on the landing page.

Page Elements

The ClickFunnels’ editor features a total of 32 page elements (as of this writing) that are neatly sorted into six different groups:

click funnels page elements

  • This makes up most of the text content on your landing page such as headlines, paragraphs, and bulleted lists.
  • ClickFunnels’ media items allow users to add visual elements – images, pop-ups, and video – to their landing pages.
  • The forms section features regular elements such as input fields and buttons in addition to advanced form fields like SMS sign up, shipping/billing address, and surveys.
  • The content section contains page elements that you’d usually find on a landing page but are difficult to implement with regular page builders. These include FAQ sections, navigation elements, progress bars, and pricing tables.
  • An absolute must-have for anyone wanting to create some hype for their upcoming product launch. ClickFunnels lets you add countdown timers, minute timers, and day timers.
  • This section contains elements like pre-designed social share buttons, Facebook comments, and options to add custom JavaScript and HTML script.

ClickFunnels’ collection of useful, built-in page elements makes it possible for all kinds of business owners to create professional-looking landing pages for their specific business.

Clickfunnels A/B Testing

Once you’ve created your landing page (or sales funnel) either by using a pre-designed template or building one from scratch, you have the option to run A/B tests on it.

Leadpages Review

Leadpages review

Leadpages is a web application that focuses on helping its users build high-converting landing pages and lead generation forms.

While ClickFunnels was an all-round marketing funnels tool, Leadpages focuses on landing pages only. The service integrates with various email service providers to capture leads and convert them into customers.

The application is targeted at small and growing businesses that use search engine marketing and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising to generate incoming traffic. It allows business owners to set up fully functional landing pages and monitor their campaign’s results.

Since Leadpages is a single-purpose application, it offers a wide range of landing-page specific features such as conversion goal pages, exit intent pop-ups, two-step opt-in forms, and much more.

EASE OF USE

The Leadpages’ dashboard strikes the perfect balance between simplicity and robustness

FEATURES

As we mentioned before, Leadpages was designed with the sole purpose to help its users create high-quality landing pages for their product launches and PPC advertising campaigns.

But does it have all the essential features you might need in a landing page tool?

Drag and Drop

Up until recently, Leadpages didn’t have a drag and drop editor for creating landing pages.

However, things have changed now and the powerful landing page tool comes packed with an even more powerful drag and drop editor.

Leadpages drag and drop UI

It lets users choose page elements from the left sidebar and drag and drop them into place in the editor window.

Once you’ve added an element to the page, you can move it around by using the drag and drop icon. However, if you want to add or manage rows, columns, or sections, you’ll have to use the sidebar menu.

The editor doesn’t even let you add rows and columns directly from the editor window though you do have the option to duplicate page elements that you’ve already added to your landing page.

Leadpages Templates

Leadpages comes with hundreds of landing page templates – both free and paid – for all kinds of business owners.

The templates are categorized under two main groups: Drag & Drop and Standard. As the name suggests, the Drag & Drop templates are customizable using the new drag and drop editor whereas the Standard templates can only be customized using Leadpages’ old editor.

Leadpages editor

Leadpages’ is an incredibly popular choice for online business owners looking to create landing pages.

And since the application features professionally-crafted landing page designs, they are used by many businesses making their templates easily recognizable.

Leadpages templates

On a slightly more positive note though, Leadpages allows you to sort their templates collection by highest converting landing pages and the most recent ones.

What’s more is that you can filter the templates based on your niche (e-commerce, real estate), the product you’re selling (app, book), or what you’re trying to accomplish with the landing page (upsell-bonus, SEO-PPC, lead capture, opt-in).

Deployment Time

Leadpages features both a drag and drop editor and a standard editor.

If you’re using the standard editor then it’ll definitely need a little getting used to since it has a steep learning curve.

On the other hand, however, its new drag and drop editor is intuitive and easy to use.

At the bare minimum, all you have to do is select a template, substitute the placeholder text and images with your own, and hit the Publish button.

The only downside of this tool is that it automatically publishes your landing page on your website.

And after the landing page is published, you’re presented with a Publish Options menu to modify your landing page’s publish settings, choose other publishing options, or share your page template.

The additional publishing options include:

Leadpages publishing

  • Publish to a WordPress site for which you’ll have to get the Leadpages plugin.
  • Publish as a Facebook tab which you can do directly from the Publish Options
  • Publish on another server for which you’ll need to download the page’s HTML or export the full HTML source.
Leadpages A/B Testing

Leadpages offers A/B testing functionality to all of their users allowing them to test out multiple variations of their landing page’s design.

The A/B testing process is split up into four stages:

Leadpages A/B Testing

  1. Choose Control. Choose the original landing page that you’d like to test. This page will remain unchanged.
  2. Add Variations. You can choose to make modifications to a duplicate of your control landing page or add a page that you’ve previously created. You can add as many variations as you’d like.
  3. Distribute Traffic. In this stage of the A/B testing process, you can choose the percentage of traffic you’d like each landing page variation to receive. You can set it manually using the slider or hit the Distribute Evenly button to make sure each page receives an equal amount of traffic.
  4. In this step, you’ll be prompted to review the details of your test. You can choose to save the test and initiate it later or start it right away.

  1. Thanks for this Charles… I honestly didn’t realize that clickfunnels limits the number of visits you can get per month on their smaller package.I’ve been wondering which system to use long-term in order to run more split tests but with my wife’s traffic that would become very expensive very quickly on click funnels so I think LP is the right tool for me. Thanks for shining some light on this for me, mate!
